Our Mission
The New Zealand Small Business Assistance Centre exists to help entrepreneurs across the country access the government grants and loans that support business growth. We bring together information on available programmes and present it in a way that is straightforward to search and compare.
Our work centres on two goals: helping business owners identify the funding options that match their circumstances, and providing clear resources so those owners can take confident next steps.
The New Zealand Small Business Assistance Centre was created with a straightforward purpose: to help entrepreneurs navigate the often complex landscape of government grants, loans, and other funding programmes available across the country. Many business owners are unaware of the support that exists for sectors ranging from agriculture and forestry to retail, tourism, and technology. By bringing these options together in one accessible place, the Centre aims to reduce the time and effort required to find programmes that genuinely match a business's circumstances and ambitions.
At the heart of the Centre's work is a commitment to clear, honest information. Rather than offering financial advice or guaranteeing outcomes, the team focuses on presenting details about each programme in a way that is easy to search, compare, and understand. This includes outlining general eligibility considerations, application steps, and the kinds of costs that funding might cover, such as equipment purchases, training, marketing, feasibility studies, or product development. The goal is to help owners make informed decisions about which paths are worth pursuing.
The Centre also serves as a starting point for ongoing learning. Small business owners can explore resources on topics like business planning, market research, financial management, and growth strategies, all of which often play a role in qualifying for support or using funding effectively. Whether a business is just starting out, expanding into export markets, or seeking to improve efficiency, the Centre encourages owners to learn about the broader ecosystem of assistance available and to approach funding as one tool within a wider plan for sustainable development.
